Цели урока:

1. Расширение социокультурных и лингвострановедческих знаний о Канаде.

Формирование речевой компетенции в основных видах речевой деятельности аудировании и говорении.

2. Развитие коммуникативных умений и навыков:

- аудирования незнакомого текста с извлечением нужной информации;

- монологической речи — умения передавать содержание прослушанного текста с опорой на записи.

3. Приобщение учащихся к культуре, традициям и реалиям стран, изучаемого языка. Воспитание понимания важности изучения английского языка в современном мире. Способствовать воспитанию сотрудничества при коллективной, групповой работе.

Оборудование: таблицы для индивидуальной работы обучающихся; карточки для работы в парах и ключи к ним; викторина с использованием компьютера.

2. Now I am going to describe a country. You are to guess it. This country is a member of the Commonwealth. It has mountains, high plains and low plains. It has several climatic regions. The people living in that country are fond of baseball, football, volley-ball, ice-hockey, tennis and other games.

Could you tell me what the theme of our lesson is? Why do you think so?

Today I’m going to speak about Canada. You should listen to me attentively to get more information about this country.You’ll learn about their culture and traditions. You should use this information to tell us about these countries. You‘ll also work in pairs, in groups with cards.

II. Basic part of lesson

  1. Pupils work in groups. Each group read one part of text and does the task.

Canada is the second largest country in the world. Only Russia has a greater land area. Canada is situated on the north of Northern America, washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Pacific Ocean in the west, and the Atlantic Ocean in the North and in the north-east by the Baffin Bay and the Davis Strait. It is a federation of 10 provinces and 3 territories. Every province and every territory has its own national symbol. The National Flag of Canada is known as the Maple Leaf. It is red flag with a white square in its center and 11-pointed, red maple leaf (1 group)

Ottawa is the national capital and an emerging center of high-technology research. Its population is about 880,000 people .

Ontario is known as Canada’s Heartland. The population of province is about 12,800,000 people. Toronto is the largest city and the capital of Ontario. Ontario produces more than half of Canada’s manufactured goods. Quebec is Canada’s largest province. Population: 7,700,000 people. The capital is Quebec City. But Montreal is the largest city of the province. (2 group)

Alberta is Canada's Prairie Provinces. Population: 3,474,000 people. The capital city is Edmonton. Calgary is a major distribution and transportation hub and one of Canada's major commerce centers.

Canada’s territories take up more than a third of area. But they have a very small population and a very cold weather. The population Yukon is about 31,000 people, the capital is Whitehorse. Northwest Territories with capital Yellowknife has the population of about 42,000 people. (3 group)

Niagara Falls is a set of massive waterfalls located on the Niagara River, straddling the international border separating the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. The falls are located 27 km north-northwest of Buffalo, New York, 120 km south-southeast of Toronto, Ontario, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Animals of Canada are similar to those of Northern Europe and Asia. Among the carnivores are the ermine sable, wolverine, coyote, the black bear, wolf, fox and skunk. The polar bear is distributed to Arctic, the puma is found in BC .

Plant life varies with land type and climate. Such trees as sugar maple, beach, coniferous trees, hemlock, yellow, red and white pine grow here leaf (4 group)
