Оргмомент

- Good afternoon, my dear friends. Sit down, please.

The theme of our lesson is “Environmental protection and recycling”.

Today we shall continue speaking about ecology. We’ll go deeper into the environmental problems, and try to find some solutions to solve these problems.

But before we start I’d like to pay your attention to the words of American writer:” In the eyes of nature we are just another species in trouble”. These words are the motto of our lesson. Do you agree with the author?

(на доске написано высказывание, дети его читают и высказывают свое мнение)

P1 Yes, I do. I think …

  1. Warm-up

So, let’s start

Look at the blackboard.

The words and word combinations you see must be divided into two categories:

Учащиеся читают слова на доске и делят их на две категории.

waste, green zone, rubbish, take measures, litter, destruction, harmful substances, purifying system,

recycling, gases, electric cars, forest fires, filters, chemicals

2. Vocabulary practice

You’ve done everything correctly and now we’ll check the meaning of the words.

For this you are given tasks on the cards. You should choose the best ending to each sentence:

(2 minutes to do this task in writing)

a) In cities the air is hard to breathe because of car — exhaust fumes

b) The earth’s climate is changing because of---pollution

3. Language development

At the previous lessons we spoke about different kinds of pollution in the world and in our city. Let’s revise them.

So, which issues you consider the most important?

-Now litter is something we can see all around us.

Why do you think there is so much litter?

-I think it’s because of lack of education and culture.

What problems do litter cause?

-Well, streets are dirty, people suffer from different kind of diseases.

What other environmental problems can you think of?

-Air pollution.

-Water pollution.

What problem does water pollution cause?

What about the destruction of the forests?

-People cut down and burn forests because they want to use land for farming and building.

What effect does this have?

-Animals and plants lose their homes, people have less oxygen to breath.

4. Follow -up

Now, imagine that you are a mayor of our city.

What would you do to protect our city? Explain why.

Use the table on the blackboard

-If I were a mayor of our city I would …… fine people for littering

-If I were a mayor of our city I would ……

-If I were a mayor of our city I would ……

-If I were a mayor of our city I would …

-If I were a mayor of our city I would……

-If I were a mayor of our city I would ……

5. Grammar in use.

Grammar test (Conditional sentences). You’ll be given 3 minutes to do this task in writing

You should open the brackets using conditional sentences.

Open the brackets using Conditionals I and II:

Iv.

  1. If people (to use) cars less, the air would be much cleaner.
  2. Wild animals (not to leave) their habitats, when people protect the natural world.
  3. If people (to think) more about ecology, they will stop cutting down trees.
  4. There (to be) less water and air pollution, if we used filters at plants and factories.
  5. If I were the head of the city, I (to fine) people for dropping litter in the streets.
  6. If people (to use) public transport, they would reduce air pollution.

IIv.

  1. If everybody (to put) litter in bins, they would keep the country tidy.
  2. If plants and factories didn’t throw chemical waste into rivers, fish (not to die) out there.
  3. If children (to take care) of animals, they will help to protect the natural world.
  4. The environment (to be) much cleaner, if people didn’t use so many chemicals.
  5. A lot of animals would survive, if people (not to destroy) their habitats.
  6. If people (not to drop) so much litter, our streets would be much cleaner.

6. Listening and watching

Let’s watch a short film about recycling and then we’ll continue our discussion.

(U-tube film about recycling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_H-B0jeFhE)

a) What can people do with rubbish instead of just throwing it away?

b) What things can be recycled again?

c) What can be made from waste paper?

d) What should everybody do to keep the country tidy?

e) Is recycling important nowadays?

f) Are there any recycling centers in our city?

  1. Role-play. Speaking

Pupils are divided into 3 groups:

1) representatives of the company which wants to built a factory producing paper products such as copy-books, notebooks, wall-papers in the city.

2) people living in the area where the future factory will be built.

3) the mayor of our city.

The task is to express your opinion about this problem.

Try to use conditional sentences in your speech.

8. Solutions

At the beginning of our lesson we were talking about pollution and solution and we were choosing special words and phrases connecting with the given problem.

And now I want you to tell me your own solutions, what measures should be taken to prevent

ecological problems and what can each of you personally do.

9. poem

At the end of our lesson I want to read you the poem, which sounds as a call to the people of the whole world to safe the Earth.

Rub your eyes and look around,

Litter lying on the ground,

Bottles, cans and polythene-

Take the tip and change to green!

Forests going up in smoke,

Cities fit to make you choke,

Nowhere left to be that’s clean-

Take a breath and change to green!

Animals and plants have died,

People starve to feed our pride,

For the life that might have been

Take a stand and change to green!

There’s so much that isn’t right,

It could get you well uptight,

So make a start and change the scene-

The lights are flashing- change to green!

10. Home task:

Write the composition

“How can we make our town a better place to live in?”

11. Your marks:

12. So, our lesson is over. But I’m sure that you‘re real friends of our planet.

And I want you to remember:

The sooner we put all solutions into practice, the better our lives will become.

Open the brackets using Conditionals I and II:

Iv.

  1. If people (to use) cars less, the air would be much cleaner.

  4. There (to be) less water and air pollution, if we used filters at plants and factories.
  5. If I were the head of the city, I (to fine) people for dropping a package, a can or cigarette end in the streets.
  6. If people (to use) public transport, they would reduce air pollution.

Role-play. Speaking

Now I’d like you to act out the situation:

-you are those who want to built a factory producing paper products such as copy-books, note books, wall-papers.

- people living in the area where the future factory will be built.

- and the mayor of our city.

You may look through you notes if it was your home task.

express your opinion about this problem.

Try to use conditional sentences in you speech.

This problem is urgent and very important nowadays, so we can discuss it endless.
